About Joseph Ayala
I’ve always believed that when someone needs help, you step up. That lesson came from my grandpa, the greatest man I’ve ever known. When I was ten, he asked me to take out the trash and mow the lawn for a neighbor whose husband was in the hospital. I asked if I’d get paid, and for the first and only time, he raised his voice. “When someone needs help, you help them — without expecting anything in return.” When I joined the Simi Valley City Council, I made a promise to approach this role with the same values my grandfather taught me: generosity, compassion, and integrity.
Doing the Work
I know leadership is about more than titles or appearances—it’s about doing the work every single day. I take pride in rolling up my sleeves, digging into the details, and following through on commitments. Whether it’s preparing thoroughly for council meetings, responding to resident concerns, or partnering with community organizations, I don’t just show up—I engage, contribute, and deliver. My experience has taught me that the best way to earn trust is through consistency, reliability, and a clear track record of results.
Doing What’s Right
I strive to do what’s right, not what’s easy or politically convenient. That means making decisions rooted in fairness, long-term impact, and the greater good—even when it requires difficult conversations or standing alone. I am guided by a strong moral compass, a respect for all voices, and a belief that public service is a responsibility, not a platform. Every vote I cast and every policy I support reflects my commitment to equity, transparency, and integrity.
Doing It With Heart
I lead with heart because I genuinely care about the people I serve. Every decision I make is shaped by empathy, respect, and a desire to uplift others. I listen first, I respond with compassion, and I stay grounded in the real-life stories and struggles of our community. Whether I’m mentoring a student, supporting a small business, or collaborating with city staff, I bring humanity to the work—because at the end of the day, service is about people, not politics.
